Home: Save Your Tumor

Midwest Personalized Oncology Program: Cancer is personal. Cancer treatment should be, too.

That's why we are working together on a research study for personalized cancer care.

The Midwest Personalized Oncology Program (MPOP) is an alliance of patients, physicians, researchers, health advocates and officials laying the foundation for the next generation of cures for cancer.

As science advances, it may become possible to tailor cancer treatment to an individual's specific type of cancer, based on the genetics of the cancerous tissue.

Cancer tissue differs at the genetic level from healthy normal tissue. And between indviduals with similar types of cancer, there may be important genetic variation in their cancer tissue, a difference that is important to survival.

We are asking cancer patients who undergo surgery to "save your tumor" and donate a small sample of tumor tissue to medical science. This, combined with information about their medical treatment, can help scientists use the science of functional genomics to explore new frontiers in cancer research. Many believe that improved understanding of cancer genetics will help create better ways to prevent, detect, diagnose and treat cancer.

Please review this program. If you wish to learn how you can join our efforts in Nebraska, and nationally, we encourage you to Make Your Mark on the future of cancer care.
